Attempted Assault on Narcotics Agent During Drug Search

JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. — Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was investigating complaints of drug activity in the area of County Road 673 in Stevenson, Ala. Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at around 8 p.m., Narcotics Agent located two vehicles and a four-wheeler/ATV parked at the dead-end of County Road 673.

An unidentified male subject left the area on the four-wheeler/ATV. Agents did make contact with a male (Michael Keith GARRARD) and a female (Madonna Lynn GANT), both of which were familiar to the Agents.

Officers found methamphetamine pipe with methamphetamine residue in one of the vehicles, an Agent placed GARRARD under arrest and placed him in handcuffs.

GANT jumped into a blue 2011 Ford Mustang bearing AL personalized Tag “LYNGANT” and attempted to flee the area. The vehicle lost control and wrecked into a wooded area causing the vehicle to stall temporarily.

As one of the Narcotic Agents approached the vehicle in an attempt to arrest the driver (GANT) the vehicle backed out of the wooded area and drove aggressively toward the Agent at which time the Agent fired several shots at the vehicle.

No one was injured during this incident and GANT fled the scene. Patrol Deputies and Investigators responded to the area to assist but the vehicle and/or GANT were not located.

An arrest warrant was obtained for GANT charging her with Attempted Assault 1st degree. GANT is described as a 48-year-old white female approximately 5’7″ tall and 140 pounds with blond hair. GANT may still be driving the 2011 blue Ford Mustang bearing AL personalized Tag “LYNGANT”. GANT is known to frequent the Pisgah and Rosalie Alabama areas of Jackson County and Ider and Henegar areas of Dekalb County but may be anywhere.

A BOLO was sent out to law enforcement in the Tri-State area. Based on this incident and a prior attempted assault on a Deputy, GANT should be considered Dangerous. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of GANT or the vehicle should contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office 256-574-2610 or your local Police Department.

During a further search of GARRARD’s vehicle Agents located Methamphetamine, Controlled Pills, and Prescription Medications which he did not possess a prescription for.GARRARD age 47 of Stevenson, AL. was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances-Methamphetamine (FELONY), Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance-Schedule V Controlled Pills (FELONY), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (MISDEMEANOR) and Illegal Possession of Prescription Medications (MISDEMEANOR). Bond has not yet been set on the Felony charges and GARRARD remains in the Jackson County Jail.
