Children’s Advocacy Center to Meet with Congressman Brooks

Scottsboro, Ala. – Congressman Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) is set to attend the Jackson County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) board meeting this month. The meeting will take place Tuesday, January 21st at 5:30 P.M.

The CAC models, promotes, and delivers excellence in child abuse response and prevention through service, education, and leadership. Funding is critical and necessary for the CAC to operate in an efficient manner in its service to the children of Jackson County.

Congressman Brooks has accepted the CAC’s invitation to discuss future grant opportunities. The Jackson Blaze spoke with Misty Godfrey, Chairman of the CAC Board of Directors about meeting with the North Alabama Congressman.

“The Jackson County Children’s Advocacy Center is honored to welcome Congressman Brooks to our January board meeting,” says Godfrey. “Congressman Brooks is serving his fifth term and has proven he is highly active and engaged in representing the interests of the fifth district. Board member Audrey Manning Smith personally reached out to Congressman Brooks’ office and he gladly accepted the invitation.”

The Jackson County CAC has helped over 50 children receive 25 forensic interviews and 150 therapy sessions since opening its doors in October 2019. Children who have been sexually abused and/or severely physically abused have been provided a safe place to reveal their devastating experience and receive therapy services to help overcome the trauma inflicted upon them.

Godfrey noted that the CAC relies solely on financial community support pending grant approval to provide services. “Every donation made to Jackson County Children’s Advocacy Center is an investment in the lives of the children who are served,” she concluded, “All services provided are free of charge including forensic interviews, advocacy, therapy and expert testimony in court if needed.”
