HBO eyes December release date for Scottsboro-based crime documentary

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — SideStilt Films, the production company that conducted filming in Scottsboro last year, has told Jackson Blaze that HBO estimates a December release date for the true-crime documentary. No official release date has been set.

The film concentrates on the story of snake-handling preacher Glenn Summerford, who in 1992 was convicted of attempted murder after forcing his wife’s hand into a rattlesnake cage. 

The case garnered national media attention and has been the subject of various books and films over the past three decades.
