HOLLYWOOD, Ala. — On Sunday night, the Hollywood Police Department (HPD) and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to the report of the possible kidnapping of a 3-year-old child on Highway 72 in Hollywood.
According to the child’s mother, Duane E. Herron, age 45 of Elkhart, Ind., who had been staying at the mother’s residence, asked the mother to borrow her vehicle to take her 3-year-old child to the park in Scottsboro. After Herron and the child did not return after several hours, the mother called Herron several times and received varying stories as to where they were and when they would return home.
By 6 p.m., the mother contacted the JCSO to report an incident. A description of the vehicle, suspect, and the child were given out to law enforcement agencies.
At approximately 9 p.m., the vehicle was located in Rogersville, Ala. at a gas station by Lauderdale County deputies.
Herron was taken into custody and held at the JCSO where he was arrested and charged with Kidnapping in the 2nd degree and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.
The child was returned to their mother safe and unharmed. The investigation is ongoing with JCSO’s Investigations Division. No bond has been set at this time.
