SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Labor has updated it’s monthly statewide unemployment statistics. The ALDOL report shows Jackson County holding a 6.9% unemployment rate.
The new numbers reflect a positive economic trend as businesses are bringing employees back to work after a brief COVID-induced downturn.
June’s 6.9% unemployment rate is down 1.7% from May. At the height of the state-ordered closure of certain businesses, the county rate of unemployment rose to 13.3% in April.
Jackson County hit a record low unemployment rate of 2.7% prior to the emergence of the coronavirus.
The county’s unemployment rate is lower than that of the state’s, which is 8.0%. Updated figures do not reflect accounting for seasonal adjustment.
