Scottsboro, Ala. — For over four decades K Roney Hair Salon was a Scottsboro landmark. Tasha Mitchell purchased the salon four years ago and has progressively made it her own with new services, remodeling, and a new name. K Roney’s Hair Salon is now The Social House.
Mitchell worked for Kevin Roney for nine years and upon his retirement he asked her if she would like to purchase the business since she had been with him the longest. “It made me nervous to take the big step of becoming a business owner,” said Mitchell. “Being a buisness owner has not always been easy with the pandemic, the recession, and raising a family with an autistic child, but it has proven to be a good decision so far.”
Mitchell renovated the salon to create more work space. The salon now hosts six stations plus a private room with private entrance for waxing services. The team of beauty specialists consist of hair stylists, color specialists, makeup artists, and an esthetician. “We have a booth available for a manicurist and are accepting applications,” said Mitchell.
The esthetician services include; dermaplaning, lash tint and lift, brow lamination, and full body waxing (waxing for females only). New services at the salon include; spray tans, handtied hair extensions, and removable HaloCouture Extensions. Services for men include; brow, beard and mustache tinting, haircuts, and brow trimming.
Traveling beauty services for weddings, pageants, events, homecoming, and proms are part of the business. “We travel as a team to one location for hair and makeup services,” said Mitchell
Many new cosmetology graduates are choosing not to render the service of giving hair permanents, The Social House still offers this service. They also have a refreshing scalp massage shampoo with blow dry and do updos or basic hair braiding and French braids. The salon sells and uses Amika and IGK products and is a Redken hair color salon.
The beauty specialists at The Social House are Megan Drawbaugh, Nicole Wilbourn, Erica Hasty, Morgan Porter, and Tasha Mitchell.
The business is located at 209 College Ave.Scottsboro. Hours of operation are: Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, Saturdays and Sundays by appointment only. Phone: 256-259-5777. Follow on Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.
