Murder on Mother’s Day

A Section man has been charged with the murder of his father on Mother’s Day.

On Sunday morning, Jackson County Sherriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies along with an officer from the Powell Police Department went to do a welfare check at a home on County Road 19 at 11:40 a.m.

Upon their arrival, the JSCO stated that 74-year-old Joe Bob Shavers Jr. was found dead in the home with “apparent trauma to his head.”

After an investigation, authorities arrested Shavers’ son, 48-year-old Byron Heath Shavers, and charged him with murder. 

Byron Heath Shavers is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail with no bond set. Investigators are still looking into the situation.
