SECTION, Ala. — In their first meeting since 2013, the Section Lions defeated the Valley Head Tigers 19-14 on Thursday night.
With 3:42 remaining in the first, Section scored first on a 65-yard pass connection from Jase Holcomb to Dominick Blair. The point-after attempt was good, giving the Lions the 7-0 lead. Valley Head responded 6-plays later with a touchdown run by Jordan Burt, with 1:03 remaining in the first quarter, to tie the game 7-7.
Section answered back with a pass completion from Holcomb to Drake McCutchen with 10:12 remaining in the second quarter. The point-after attempt failed, making the score 13-7 going into the half.
After a turnover of downs to start the second half, Valley Head marched down the field to score on a Jordan Burt run. The PAT was good, giving the Valley Head Tigers the 14-13 lead. Eian Bain intercepted the ball, giving the Tigers the ball on their 40, with 8:00 remaining in the game. After penalties, Valley Head was forced to punt. The Lions took possession of the ball at their own 35 with 4:48 remaining in the game. WIth 1:15 remaining in regulation play, Section scored on a 2-yard run by J.R. Walker to win the game, 19-14.
Valley Head will begin region play this week as they host the Cedar Bluff Tigers. Section will host the Tanner Rattlers.
