SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — One of the areas the Scottsboro City Schools (SCS) have focused on over the past two and a half years is school safety and security.
At the beginning of the 2017-18 school year, the City Schools had only two SROs to cover six schools.
Everyone is very thankful for those two SROs, Officer Benson and Officer Patterson, and to Mayor Shelton, the City Council, and Police Chief Dawe for their partnership and support for the SRO program.
During the past school year, SCS was able to add two SROs – one at Nelson and one at Collins.
The City Board of Education, Superintendent, Mayor, City Council, Chief of Police, WSG, local businesses, and citizens all came together for a common purpose – creating new partnerships with our citizens and businesses who want to become a part of protecting our most valuable resources – our children.
Dr. Reyes, Superintendent of Scottsboro City Schools said, “With the WSG (Water, Sewer, Gas) coming on board, we were able to then bring the citizens of Scottsboro on board in the effort with our Community Partnership Program that allows citizens to give on their WSG monthly bill. Other businesses in the community have also joined to the effort.” He continues, “I can now inform you that we are able to announce that on April 1st we will be able to add our fifth SRO for the Scottsboro City Schools.”
“With the consolidation of schools, we will now have FIVE schools and will staff them with FIVE officers. I look forward to bringing on our FIFTH officer on April 1, 2020” Dr. Reyes concluded.
