SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — Scottsboro Mayor Robin Shelton and interim Scottsboro Police Chief Ron Latimer have released a joint statement on the peaceful protest that took place last week in the city.
“Saturday evening we saw the spirit of Scottsboro as community members gathered in downtown Scottsboro for a peaceful protest that lasted approximately two hours.
The City of Scottsboro, the Scottsboro Police Department, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the demonstrators for their peaceful protest and respect for community and private property. We will always strive for a strong community relationship with our law enforcement professionals and we want to keep an open dialogue as issues arise.
We will always promote a safe environment for our community members. We hear the message of the protesters and support the right to free speech and the right to assemble. We thank them for sharing their voices in a peaceful way.”
