SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — On Monday, Scottsboro City Schools Superintendent Dr. Jose Reyes released new protocols concerning winter sports.
According to the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), these are the new rules:
- To help facilitate social distancing, and to reduce the potential exposure to COVID-19 by large numbers of people, the total number of spectators should be limited to less than 20% of usual occupancy. Basketball games played at the Scottsboro Junior High campus will be limited to 100 spectators. Basketball games played at the Scottsboro High School campus will be limited to 500 spectators in the main gymnasium and 50 spectators in the auxiliary gymnasium. Wrestling matches held at Carter gymnasium will be limited to 150 spectators.
- Hosting schools shall make a public announcement at the beginning of each game, and during intermissions, reminding all spectators to maintain at least 6 feet of distance between themselves and persons not in their household, and to keep their face coverings or masks on at all times while in the athletic venue. All spectators are required to follow these guidelines while in attendance.
- The Alabama Department of Education (ALSDE) requests our athletic associations to encourage and empower sporting event officials to delay the start of an event or suspend competition whenever spectators are not complying with social distancing guidelines or proper wearing of face coverings or masks. The Scottsboro City School system and its administration support the AHSAA and its officials in these efforts.
