The 4th Annual Zumbathon in Jackson County was held Saturday. The charity raised thousands of dollars for breast cancer patients.
The Zumbathon benefits the Beauty and the Beast Fund of Jackson County. This year, $11,606 were raised. The money will help breast cancer patients receive treatments by funding travel expenses.
The Beauty and the Beast Fund financially aides Jackson County residents who are in treatment for breast cancer. Leslie Phillips, owner of Dare to Dream, says these patients must travel to places like Chattanooga, Fort Payne, and Huntsville for chemo or radiation, because services are limited in the Jackson County area.
Phillips says this helps the families because traveling multiple days a week for those services on top of daily expenditures and additional medical expenses can be financially draining.
