HIGDON, Ala. — The North Sand Mountain Bisons defeated the Section Lions, 40-13 in Class 2A Region 7 region play on Friday night.
Less than a minute into the game, the Bisons scored on a Lake Bell 36-yard connection to Derek Bearden for the touchdown. On the next possession, Section was forced to punt. Bell caught the ball and ran it back for the touchdown. The extra point was unsuccessful but gave the Bison the 12-0 lead. Section scored on the first play of possession when Jace Holcomb connected with Dominick Blair for the 57-yard touchdown. The point-after attempt by Alex Guinn was good, making the score 12-7. After Jacob Kirby picked off Holcomb, Fernando Luna scored for the Bisons, on a 30-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was brought in by Bell to give the Bisons the 20-7 advantage.
With 7:58 remaining in the second, Luna once again found the endzone. He brought in the 2-point conversion to give NSM the 28-7 lead. After both teams fumbled the pigskin, Bearden took the screen pass from Bell 16-yards down the field for the touchdown. The Bison unsuccessfully went for two but took the 34-7 lead into the half.
North Sand Mountain scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter on a Bell-to-Kirby connection to broaden the Bison lead to 40-7.
Late in the fourth quarter, Drake McCutchen scored for Section to make the final score of the game 40-13.
For North Sand Mountain, Luna led the way with 104 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.
Section will receive a forfeit win from the Ider Hornets on Friday due to Covid-19 concerns. North Sand Mountain will travel to take on Tanner, in region play.
