Jackson County Woman Found Dead in Bessemer

JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. — Today, the Jefferson County Coroner has identified the body of a woman found in a Bessemer manhole as 38-year-old Karen Scott. 

Scott was reported missing from Jackson County in December 2018. 

The Bessemer Police Department stated that Scott had been shot before being placed in the manhole. 

Prior to her disappearance, Scott was arrested in Marshall County on methamphetamine and heroin trafficking charges. Authorities seized $45,580 from Scott at the time of her arrest and moved to formally seize the money.

Scott’s death is being ruled as a homicide.
