UPDATED ON MARCH 3: Parole was denied on Tuesday morning for Cindy Renee Miller, who was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison after she plead guilty to the murder of April Gwathney Lemieuz in 2004.
Amy Gwathney Gorham, sister of the victim, stated: “Words are truly hard to find at a time like this. I really want to thank each and every one of our friends and family for praying and showing support. A big thank you to Jason Pierce, Jackson County District Attorney, for coming to Montgomery to speak on my family’s behalf.”
Previously Reported: JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. — Cindy Renee Miller was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison after she plead guilty to the murder of April Gwathney Lemieuz of Scottsboro in 2004. Lemieuz was shot in the back while trying to escape her attacker, Miller, in her own residence.
Miller is to go before the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles on March 3rd.
Miller fatally shot Lemeiux and her body was later found in an apartment in Scottsboro. Miller also took the victim’s vehicle and fled to a house in Skyline. After barricading herself in the house, she finally surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
Miller has served 15 years of the 30-year sentence.
According to reports, Jackson County District Attorney Jason Pierce sent a letter opposing Miller’s parole and he plans to attend the hearing in Montgomery, to personally object to her parole.
