The Starbucks in Scottsboro has officially been unionized after months of battle between the employees and corporate management.

The process to unionize began in June. After the employees were inspired by workers at a Birmingham Starbucks who unionized in May, they filed a union election.

The store and its employees began the vote to unionize in July. There were eight votes in favor of a union, eight votes against a union, and four challenged votes.

On October 31, the National Labor Relations Board updated the vote count. The new update counts nine votes in favor, eight votes against, and three challenged votes.

The North Alabama Area Labor Council (NAALC) congratulated the Scottsboro Starbucks on winning the union election in a press release by the organization on Tuesday.

The NAALC said, “We stand ready to support these workers in whatever way possible.”
