Jackson County Double Homicide

On Saturday, April 30, 2022, at approximately 2:30 PM, Deputies of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on County Road 354, Pisgah, AL. Initially, this shooting was reported to have happened in DeKalb County but it was later determined to have occurred in Jackson County. Upon arrival, Deputies found two male victims, Horace “Bimbo” GARREN age 68 of Pisgah, AL and Christopher Horace GARREN age 44 of Pisgah, AL who had been apparently shot and killed in the backyard of the residence. The suspect, Matthew Edward GARREN, fled the scene and was later located by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office helicopter in a wooded area a distance from the residence. DeKalb County Deputies soon detained Matthew Edward GARREN and returned him to the residence.   

As a result of the initial investigation, Matthew Edward GARREN age 33 of Pisgah, AL. (photo above) was arrested and charged with Murder. GARREN remains in the Jackson County Jail and the bond has not yet been set on the Murder charge. GARREN was also charged with two outstanding misdemeanor charges stemming from prior traffic-related offenses. 

Pending the results of an autopsy additional charges may be filed against Matthew GARREN.

Note that both victims and the suspect were related.
