Tough Battle for the Wildcats

SPRINGVILLE, Ala. — The Scottsboro Wildcats were defeated by the Springville Tigers, 42-28 in Class 6A Region 7 play.  

Springville took the early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Scottsboro tied the score on a 16-yard touchdown by Jacob Manning in the second quarter. The Tigers scored to go up 14-7.  Javaris Branford caught a 9-yard pass to tie the game 14-14.  

After both teams traded touchdowns to start the second half, Scottsboro went up 21-20 on a 6-yard touchdown connection from Manning to Kaylem Dupree. Springville took the 28-21 lead on a 40-yard touchdown reception with 4:46 remaining in the game. The Tigers scored on a 46-yard touchdown to broaden their lead to 35-21 with 3:03 remaining in the game. The Tigers tacked on another touchdown after an interception return to take the 42-21 advantage with 2:13 remaining in the game. Scottsboro scored on a 45-yard pass to B.J. Harris, to narrow the Tiger lead to 42-28 with :50 remaining in the game.  Scottsboro kicked an onside kick but was unable to recover, as time ran out for the Wildcats.  

Scottsboro will travel to take on the North Jackson Chiefs on Friday.
