JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. — In collaboration with the University of Alabama Huntsville’s Systems Management and Production Center, The Pruett Center of Technology staff and students have been busy making 3D face shields.

Students at Systems Management and Production Center were making shields for hospitals and nursing homes and program director Dr. Maddux decided to have EPCOT create them. The shields are made of transparency film and created using a 3D printer.

Tammie Clark, Draft and Design instructor at EPCOT, said that these masks are just for Pre-K- third grade at this time, Later throughout the year these will be produced for the rest of the schools from the fourth grade and up.

“The material  is more of an economical material to use for prototyping parts, even the face shield can be prototyped with the 3 D printer ” said Clark.

Most importantly, the students will still be able to receive hands-on learning while staying protected with the shields and making a difference in the virus spread.
